“Greater love has no one than this that He lay down His life for His friends” John 15: 13.
The love that Jesus Christ talks about is sacrificial. God’s Word hinges on love. It is the message of salvation unto all men. This love brings all men into focus. Man, made in God’s image, expected to operate in the same creative capacity with God! Man, with whom God craves a committed relationship, a fellowship unending; friendship.
This love is the reason for Easter, not for the pomp culture that is usually displayed at this time. This is the focus of Jesus’ assignment on earth. He need not come at all; He could have saved us from His Glory in Heaven. But, Beloved, there had to be remission of sins by the shedding of blood. ….“and without the shedding of blood, there is no forgiveness” Hebrews 9:22b. There had to be a sacrifice- “Christ redeemed us from the curse of the law by becoming a curse for us, for it is written, cursed is everyone who is hung on a tree” Galatians 3: 13.
In this light, let us respond to this offering, that we might be redeemed unto our Creator. Let us go back to default – we were meant to be friends – For this reason, Christ gave Himself!
O wondrous thought, Christian, what a sacrifice! Come, sinner friend, come to the saving grace of this Jesus. Just as you are, without an excuse, He is waiting to receive you into fellowship.
We must extend this love to all. Start in your little space. Forgive your offenders because Christ forgave you. Easter is more than food and drinks. Let us practice Christ’s example- He gave all of Himself. This time, do what the rich man could have done to poor Lazarus. Show mercy unto all, that indeed His “goodness and mercy” (Psalms 23: 6b) might follow you all of the days of your life.
